The Spezia announced this Tuesday that it has agreed with the former Barcelona and Atlético player Thiago Motta the termination of his contract as coach of the first team after only one season at the helm of the Italian team and with a contract in force until 2024.
“Spezia Calcio announces that an agreement has been reached on the terms of the consensual termination of the contracts of coach Thiago Motta and his coaching staff. The club wants to thank all of them for their achievements,” Spezia said in a statement.
The former Barcelona, Atlético, Inter or PSG midfielder arrived at Spezia in 2021, in what was the team’s second season in the highest category of Italian football in its history, and fulfilled the goal of salvation by finishing the championship in sixteenth place.
However, according to local media reports, Spezia’s idea is to have someone more experienced on their bench and would have in the figure of the Italian Luca Gotti, former coach of Udinese, the substitute for a Motta who coached the lower categories of PSG for one season (2018-19) and Genoa for only two months, when he was dismissed (October 2019 – December 2019).
