A brace from Alex Morgan and a goal from Margaret Purse sealed the Stars and Stripes’ thrashing. Haiti was able to cut back, but wasted a penalty.

The Americans, world champions, came out to impose conditions against a rival locked up behind. In the 16th minute Morgan received an assist from Mallory Pugh and made it 1-0. The first half was almost completely dominated by the Americans with a ratio of 70 percent. The advantage was extended in the 23rd minute with a header from Morgan.

Haiti missed the chance to discount twice, the first in the 37th minute when Batcheba Louis came into the area with the ball dominated and was stopped by goalkeeper Casey Murphy. In the 40th minute, Emily Fox brought down Nérilia Mondésir in the area and caused a penalty, but Roselord Borgella crashed the ball into the post and when the ball bounced, he kicked it out.

Borgella kicked Kelly O’hara in the 45th minute. She was booked, which the Americans claimed, asking for a red card. The Americans maintained dominance in the second half. Haiti held on until Purce made it 3-0 in minute 84 with a right hand that slipped between two defenders.
