Nothing is happening between Sorel-Tracy’s elected officials and their mayor Serge Péloquin where seven councilors out of eight voted Monday night a motion of “no confidence” a little more than a week after a spy case exploded in the open.
Elected officials found out the mayor hid the microphone in the clerk’s office before he was fired.
In vain the mayor tried to explain to councilors the reasons and the conclusions of his electronic surveillance.
He has no valid grounds to wiretap, they said. They also accuse him repeated tampering and put his personal interests before the citizens.
Councilors also voted to reinstate the fired employee specified by the employee number throughout the session.
At the end of the session, Mayor Péloquin, who did not wish to resign, insisted that an investigation by the Quebec municipal commission was being conducted and described the attitude of elected officials ashypocritical.
The subject is more complex and he is eager to know the conclusions of the investigation, he repeated.
The counselors play one game Politicsaccording to him.
To the question: why did you do the electronic monitoring? Mr. Péloquin replied that it was a file internal human resources.
He repeated that he wanted to attack serious ethical violationswithout giving further details.
He is even more annoyed with the person there is leaked information in the public square.
There are people who will be held accountable soon, that’s how you should handle itend of the mayor.
Last week after the revelation of this spy case, employees and elected officials told Radio-Canada to wonder if they were also the subject of such a hearing.
