Quebec has abandoned the idea that Prime Minister François Legault has repeatedly mentioned to nationalize all private CHSLDs.

This idea, which received force following the assassination of CHSLD Herron, finally gave way to a gradual approach.

On Friday in Magog, in the Eastern Townships, for an announcement about sports infrastructure, the Prime Minister declared that he had no intention of fixing what was working, as the expression goes.

I think this is case by case, because there are private CHSLDs that provide great service.

A quote from Premier Francois Legault

gold, there are CHSLDs that do not provide good service. One of two things: they may improve their services, or we are looking at the possibility of nationalizing them.

The Prime Minister said he wanted to move away from a wall-to-wall approach.

I am not dogmatic. There are parties that I won’t name who the private sector belongs to, we don’t move that. Me, I come from the private sector and there are private CHSLDs that make a good work. The important thing is that CISSS and CIUSSS properly administer the services provided by both private and public CHSLDs. They are responsible for it, but it will happen in every case.

Abuse

Nationalization of CHSLD is not a guarantee of quality. As if to illustrate this, Mr. Legault was then called to respond to the Québec Ombudsman’s report, which reported serious shortcomings, in some cases similar to ill-treatment, in public CHSLDs under the leadership of CIUSSS from Estrie.

The report, dated March 17, but published Thursday by the Québec Ombudsman, does not specify any particular CHSLD, although it does mention surprise visits to three of these establishments that, moreover, have not been identified. . The report therefore speaks of all 24 public CHSLDs in CIUSSS by Estrie, without making any distinction between them.

In particular, it reports a lack of help to users for hydration or diet, a lack of responding to calls for help with going to the bathroom and even isolation skills. .

Completely unacceptable

I read the report. This is completely unacceptable. We contacted CIUSSS. I want to know first – because I want them to be accountable, the leaders of CIUSSS – how it happened and I want to have consequencesdeclared the Prime Minister, who was obviously shocked at this situation.

François Legault said he got the assurance of CIUSSS that there is an action plan to solve all the problems in the report, But that was not enough for him. He took particular exception to the fact that such events occur After all we’ve been through for two years.

He said the problem was first is a management question: we cannot tolerate that a CIUSSS tolerates this type of situation in CHSLDs. The Prime Minister does not rule out the possibility of requesting an investigation if needed.

In his report, the Québec Ombudsman pointed out that the situation in CHSLDs was exacerbated by the large staff shortage and that CIUSSS needed to develop emergency plans. to prevent a break in services in some CHSLDs.

The Protecteur said this situation caused exhaustion and anxiety to the staff and managers, most of whom, among those interviewed, mentioned that the care and services offered to CHSLDs in CIUSSS no longer targeted at following good quality practices. According to them, from now on, the care teams have only sought to ensure the lowest level of security and surveillance for the people living there.
