Part of the $ 77 million should be used to improve the emergency rent supplement program for all municipalities in Quebec. Also, 2 million dollars will be allocated to finding new housing.
The government should also announce that it will extend the opening hours of the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) until July 1 to answer calls during the housing crisis. The staff of SHQ
can answer the phone 7 days a week. The new action plan to be presented by Minister Laforest will aim to facilitate the search for new housing for many tenant households, in the context of housing shortage.
Last year, the government waited until June 11 to improve its programs.
Vacancy housing rates are historically low throughout Quebec. In April, Minister Laforest acknowledged that there was a housing shortage in Quebec.
