During the public inquiry he led for two years, Coroner Kamel heard from more than 200 witnesses over 69 days, health network officials, hospital staff, politicians, but relatives. and families of 53 people died in four public CHSLDs, 2 private and one residence for seniors (RPA) during the first wave of COVID-19, in the spring of 2020.

The 193-page document, which was read by the media this week, was notably unkind to CIUSSS de l’Ouest de Montréal CEO, Lynne McVey, in the CHSLD Herron file.

Ms. also warned. McVey told the Minister of Health and Social Services (MSSS) this week that he would not seek renewal at the end of his current mandate, which will expire in July 2022.

The coroner warns in particular the disorganization of the CIUSSS management team and pointed that out most deaths occurred when CIUSSS was already managing CHSLD private Herron, in Dorval, where 47 people died in deplorable conditions in the spring of 2020 in the absence of primary care and staff to care for them.

As far as Herron is concerned, people have failed, be it the owners, the CIUSSS or the ministry.
