Historic wins for Doug Ford in the Windsor-Essex region

Doug Ford won two rides from the New Democrats

Andrew Dowie was elected to Windsor-Tecumseh with 46% of the vote against the candidate for NDP Gemma Gray-Hall. Former MP, New Democrat Percy Hatfield, who has represented riding since 2013, has decided not to run again.

In Essex, Conservative Anthony Leardi won the support of 51% of voters. Outgoing MP Taras Natyshak (NDP) also decided not to seek a fourth term. Candidate Ron LeClair, who is trying to retain the NDP seat, will have to settle for second place.

These are historic achievements, since 1999, when the constituents were created, they have not been conservative. In fact, Conservatives have not been elected at the provincial level in the region since the 1960s.

Voters are opting elsewhere for stability

New Democrat Lisa Gretzky, MP since 2014, won re -election with a comfortable lead over her closest rival, Progressive Conservative John Leontowicz, in Windsor West.

In Chatham-Kent-Lemington, Progressive Conservative Trevor Jones defeated incumbent Rick Nicholls, who was elected under the Conservative banner in 2011 but was kicked out of the caucus in 2021 after refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19. He presented himself this time under the Ontario Party flag.

Not surprisingly, in Sarnia-Lambton, Progressive Conservative Bob Bailey, who has represented that riding since 2007, won re-election while Monte McNaughton, who served as Labor Minister until the government dissolved, easily won his spot with a 59% majority in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

In the London area, the Conservatives are retaining their seat in Elgin-Middlesex-London, thanks to the success of Rob Flack who replaced Jeff Yurek who did not seek a new mandate. New Democrats Teresa Armstrong (London-Fanshawe), Terence Kernaghan (London North Center) and Peggy Sattler (London West) were re-elected.
