If chief caquiste François Legault refuses to debate the environment, it is because he knows nothing about it and he is afraid, judge Quebec solidaire’s parliamentary leader, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
He fired this arrow at a press briefing on Tuesday, after Mr. Legault refused to participate in the leaders ’debate on the climate crisis in the next election campaign.
The other day, the Quebec Liberal Party, Quebec Solidaire and the Parti Quebecois rushed to accept the invitation of the “Vire au vert” collective to hold such a debate.
According to Mr. Nadeau-Dubois, Premier Legault is presenting a report be damned in the environment. François Legault could not talk about the environment for more than five minuteshe quipped.
He didn’t know that, he wasn’t interested and that’s why he didn’t want to talk about it. […] He failed the whole line, and if he refused to talk about it, it was because he was afraid to defend his failure.
The Prime Minister later defended his choice, saying he would still wield the sword with other leaders in traditional Radio-Canada and TVA debates covering a wide range of topics.
Importantly, two debates, he said. [M. Nadeau-Dubois] we can ask all the questions, we can debate. The rest of the time, what are we going to do? We are going to the field.
Mr. Legault took the opportunity to praise his record. He said he is proud of the construction of the blue line in Montreal, the agreement between Hydro-Québec and New York, and the purchase of electric buses.
Mr. President, we are in the process of developing the battery sector, he added. Québec solidaire opposes that, even though it respects European standards. […] Québec solidaire is an unrealistic partyhe said in the Blue Room.
Leaping into the fray, Liberal leader Dominique Anglade also lamented the Prime Minister’s refusal to participate in an important debate on the climate crisis.
He’s afraid to debate his environmental record because he doesn’t have one. Then, more importantly, he has no perspective on the environmental question, no perspective on the climate crisis. He has nothing to offer. He told us: “Basically, we do what we can, we can’t go any further”. It’s resignation to the environmenthe said at a press briefing at the National Assembly.
