Officials and the Quebec government finally reached an agreement in principle on Thursday. The five-day strike scheduled for next week has been canceled.
The agreement in principle concerns 26,000 members of the Public Service certification, in particular office workers and technicians of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec and Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec.
The Union of Public and Parapublic Service of Quebec (SFPQ) and the Treasury Board met Thursday in negotiating council. SFPQ president Christian Daigle said in an interview last week that he hoped an agreement in principle would be concluded that day to prevent a strike.
The agreement has expired since 2020
After more than two years of talking to the government, this positive result will benefit all our members and the public. This agreement will make it possible to improve working conditions in the public service in an attempt to prevent the labor shortage problems plaguing our public services.indicates Mr. Daigle in a press release.
For its part, the government welcomes the announcement of this agreement.
I am pleased to announce that an agreement in principle has been reached with 26,000 SFPQ employees. I would like to thank the staff covered by this agreement. It is thanks to their work that we are able to offer the population high quality services to Quebecers.underline Treasury Board president, Sonia LeBel, on Twitter.
The members of SFPQ
will be called upon to decide on the agreement in principle for the renewal of their collective agreement in mid-July.Their collective agreement expired on March 31, 2020, as was the case for unions representing all state employees. However, the latter renewed their collective agreement, for the most part.
