The Conseil de la nation atikamekw (CNA) confirms that its confidence in Wendake’s elected officials was “strongly shaken” after vandalism acts committed on land occupied by the Innus of Mashteuiatsh, in the Laurentides wildlife reserve, and asked the Quebec-Labrador Assembly of First Nations (AFNQL) to intervene.

The Wendake Council adopted a colonization attitude by claiming exclusive occupation of a territory historically visited by members of certain countries, and by exploring it in this way.said NAC Grand Chief Constant Awashish in a statement.

However, the great leader [de Wendake] Rémy Vincent, shortly after his election, announced that he wanted to restore bridges to other First Countries, the press release also emphasized. What happened at the Parc des Laurentides contradicts his words.

For the Awashish Grand Chief, AFNQL must respond and must continue to important changes.

“Some members of [Wendake] benefit from strategic positions within the various AFNQL commissions.[ …] All First Nations must have full confidence in the heads of these institutions who are the commissions, ”he wrote.

The CNA also reiterated its support for the Mashteuiatsh community, sending a formal notice to Wendake elected officials.

Recall that a citizen from Mashteuiatsh, Claudie Paul found last weekend that the site where she wanted to build a cottage, with the permission of her band council, had been vandalized.

According to him, rocks and trees were placed in the ground, a ditch was dug, all accompanied by a note from the Huron-Wendat band council of Wendake confirming that he had no right to occupy the area and it was their territory. .

For their part, the Huron-Wendat authorities are arguing in favor of restoring the natural state of a territory claimed by the country.
