The four years of the Legault government will be economically determined; at least that’s what the outgoing Prime Minister said at the end of the session (and term) report presented to the National Assembly on Friday.
I’m proud of the team I’ve worked with. I am proud of the resultssaid François Legault, in his last speech in parliament before the start of the general election scheduled for October 3.
Mr. Legault said he was particularly proud of his government’s economic record. It’s always been my obsession, the famous wealth gap between Quebec and Ontariohe acknowledged, before boasting of the fact that over the past four years, wealth growth per capita is larger in this part of the interprovincial boundary. Similar to gross domestic product and the declining unemployment rate, the chief caquiste continued.
Moreover, the Prime Minister, like the leaders of the opposition, has his own electoral message to convey: if Quebecers give a second mandate to the CAQ in October, the government will assess the value of the second check sent to the citizens to fight the rising cost of living, after the first payment of $ 500, earlier this year.
A government green
François Legault also praised his management of the pandemic, however cruel decision aims to protect the population.
Among his pride, the Prime Minister maintained thatno government has a better record on the environment and in combating climate change than the CAQ government. On this topic, he mentioned the developments in terms of wind power projects, the manufacture of electric batteries on Quebec soil, the rejection of the Quebec LNG project and the closure of Quebec territory in fossil fuel extraction activities.
“I challenge anyone to prove the opposite,” Mr. Legault said.
However, in April, Environment Minister Benoît Charette described the opposition’s environmental measures asimpossiblespecifically the further reduction of greenhouse gas emissions when we know we will be hard to reach the government targets 37.5% fewer emissions by 2030.
The Prime Minister also launched several attacks on opposition parties. In particular, he criticized the Parti Québécois for its proposal to limit the price of fuel, in addition to qualifying the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) and Quebec solidaire (QS) as multiculturalist party to oppose, in whole or in part, Bills 21 and 96, which relate respectively to the wearing of religious symbols and of the French language.
Warmly applauded by his deputation, François Legault seemed to be in a hurry to fight his opponents and return to the electoral campaign. A campaign that has in fact already begun, though the official launch has not yet taken place. It’s up to Quebecers to choose, on Oct. 3end of chief caquiste.
