Comedian and musician Pierre-Luc Brillant will be the Parti Québécois (PQ) candidate in Rosemont, Montreal, in the Oct. 3 election, The Canadian Press has learned.
He will face outgoing Quebec solidaire member Vincent Marissal.
Rosemont was a stronghold of the PQ for a long time, until Mr. Marissal ousted PQ leader Jean-François Lisée in the 2018 general election.
Born in 1978, Pierre-Luc Brillant began his screen career at an early age. He has acted in several films, including Piggy Bank, Combine and company, BALIW., The Loss of the Fireflyat There is no chicane in my cabina film just released.
He also had many roles on the small screen, even on Plan B, Our Summer, The Breakaway, A difficult time, District 31etc.
Mr. Brillant is the wife of actress Isabelle Blais.
Not Mr. Brillant is the first actor to sit on PQ if elected. Pierre Curzi was a member of the PQ for Borduas from 2007 to 2011, before sitting as an independent. In addition, in 2014, actress and director Lorraine Pintal wore PQ colors in Verdun, but was not elected.
With the announcement of this new candidacy, the PQ is ending a week of turmoil that also marked the end of parliamentary work in the National Assembly.
On Tuesday, François Legault presented his Lévis candidate, Bernard Drainville, a former PQ minister who has now converted to Coalition avenir Québec, prompting questions about the future of the PQ.
PQ caucus veterans are finishing their political careers. MPs Sylvain Gaudreault, of Jonquière, Véronique Hivon, of Joliette, and Lorraine Richard, of Duplessis, have informed that they will not run again.
Of the current team, only Pascal Bérubé, of Matane-Matapédia, Joël Arseneau, of Îles-de-la-Madeleine, and Méganne Perry-Mélançon, of Gaspé, have announced that they will seek the votes on the October 3 ballot. Martin Ouellet, in René-Lévesque, will announce his decision soon.
In 2018, Mr. Marissal was elected with 35% of the vote in Rosemont, ahead of 2,500 votes than Jean-François Lisée, who won 28% of the vote.
