Luc Boileau, who succeeded Dr. Horacio Arruda on an interim basis as national director of public health in January, was appointed to this position on Wednesday. Thus he became Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Health and Social Services and National Director of Public Health for Quebec.
Dr. Boileau was appointed to these roles on Jan. 11, following the resignation of Drs. Arruda, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and at the time that hospitals reached the highest in the province.
Luc Boileau is former President and CEO of the National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS).
A physician trained at Sherbrooke University and a public health expert, Dr. Boileau has also been regional director of public health and president and CEO of the Montérégie Health and Social Services Agency.
