Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief RoseAnne Archibald says the organization breached its own charter by suspending her and preventing her from attending its annual general meeting.
Archibald was suspended by the AFN Executive Committee and National Board of Directors on June 17, following a statement she made the day before.
In it, the national leader claimed to have been attacked for attempting to clean up corruption within theAPN . She also called for a forensic audit and an independent investigation into the conduct of theAPN over the past eight years.
In a press release last week, theAPN
explained that its national leader was suspended with pay pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into four complaints filed against her.L’APNviolates its obligations towards the organization and maintains that Ms. Archibald’s comments will only undermine the work of the assembly.
accuses him of havingMs. Archibald believes that the executive committee does not have the power to suspend a national chief, which would instead require a special meeting of members. She will now turn to the courts to have her suspension overturned.
