The Minister for Territorial Communities said she regretted her comments on same-sex marriage, which she had described as “design against nature”.

The minister fails to extinguish the controversy. Caroline Cayeux may well have apologized this Thursday night in an interview with the Parisian for his “stupid and awkward” comments about homosexuals, his regrets don’t seem to be enough.

Although a column against him should be published this weekend, signed in particular by members of the presidential majority, the associations that fight against LGBTphobia are already expressing their discontent.

“No hierarchy between discriminations”

“The denigration that the minister has made cannot be erased with a simple letter,” Alexandre Urwicz, president and co-founder of the Association of homoparental families, affirms on BFMTV. Caroline Cayeux, in fact, sent a letter of apology to the associations against homophobia that had filed a complaint against her.

In this letter, “we still have the impression that Caroline Cayeux does not realize the impact of her words and how much it can hurt”, laments Lucile Jomat, president of SOS Homophobia, mentioning in particular the expression “these gens-là” used by the Minister to refer to homosexuals.

For Alexandre Urwicz, these statements are “contrary to the first article of the Constitution, which says that the Republic is indivisible.” “There is no hierarchy between discriminations,” he continues.

“If the expression referred to West Indians or people of the Jewish faith, don’t you think the minister would have already been landed?” he asks into our microphone.

Expected acts “of the whole government”

Lucile Jomat says “accept” the apology, but expects “actions from behind”. Caroline Cayeux “needs training, awareness, to understand that we can’t say these things,” she explains to BFMTV.

“We await action from the entire government,” he adds.

Other associations go further, such as Alexandre Urwicz of the Homoparental Family Association, which invites the minister to “leave the government.” “We don’t want a minister to sweep us under the rug,” he says. According to him, Caroline Cayeux changed her mind “for political convenience” and does not believe that she is sincere. “She rows as she can row,” she concludes.
