Yes to the commitments, not to the “superior” ones: the Government tried to square the debate this Monday in the Assembly on its package of measures in favor of purchasing power, while the left and RN faced each other on salary increases.
After four and a half hours of discussions in the afternoon and then at night, the deputies did not reach the end of the first article of the first bill, which provides for the continuation of the “Macron bonus”, an exceptional tax-exempt and desocialized bonus for the employees.
The left-wing alliance Nupes has never stopped criticizing bonuses for “smoking” that come “to replace wages”, which the majority rejects. Above all, the rebels attacked the “good allies of macronie”, that is, the RN deputies who sought to modify or expand the bonus, and not oppose it.
The leader of the RN deputies, Marine Le Pen, had shortly before called on the opposition to “work together to impose compromises on Emmanuel Macron”, believing that a bonus was better than nothing.
“Few crumbs and a lot of coal”
During the general discussion, the left crushed a package of measures “to the taste of very few” (PCF). It’s “a few crumbs and a lot of carbon,” according to environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau. These deputies will decline in amendments their own text of “social emergency” with a rise in the minimum wage to 1,500 euros or taxation of the “super profits” of large groups.
For the LRs, “discontent and misunderstanding are there” and “you are fracturing society” by giving checks to some, accused their spokesman Thibault Bazin in the direction of the executive. His group is betting in particular on a “lower fuel price of 1.5 euros per liter”.
“No group, no political party, no deputy has an interest in saying at the end of the week that this text is not adopted”, otherwise “it means that the purchasing power of the French will not be protected”, according to the president of the deputies LREM Aurore Bergé.
The RN plans to support the text
The RN group already plans to support this “urgent” text, some Nupes consider that “it is better than nothing” and the right promises to be “demanding” with funding.
Bruno Le Maire approached the LRs and said he was open to more tax exemption for overtime, as voted on in committee, and to expanding compensation for those who drive to work.
Final approval of the purchasing power package, after a back-and-forth with the Senate, is scheduled for August 7, if the government’s plan goes as planned. Last week he suffered a first setback with the health bill, amputated from a key article on the possible return of an anti-Covid health pass for entries in France.
