“And long live decadence!” The small output of Bruno Le Maire launched at Sandrine Rousseau around 6 pm on Monday in the absence of the interested party did not please the environmentalist deputy. Invited this Tuesday morning on BFMTV and RMC, the chosen Parisian reacted with dismay.
“It is irresponsible for a minister to say that (…) While the IPCC report came out a few weeks ago,” he laments.
“Let him turn on his television and watch fires“, invites him, referring to the 19,300 hectares devastated in Girondelargely as a result of climate change. The elected environmentalist resents the irresponsibility “for us” and “for our children.”
“And long live decadence!”
The day before, while the stormy debates took place in the hemicycle during the examination of article 1 of purchasing power billthe Economy Minister had rebuked the Parisian deputy who had explained a few hours earlier that he hoped this text would be “a unique opportunity to review our consumption model”.
“Tomorrow, let’s turn everything off and long live degrowth! Mrs. Rousseau, listening to your speeches – it’s not the first of its kind – I just want to tell you that the Apocalypse is not a political project for the French nation,” the Bercy tenant had joked.
“Criminal Denial”
In our antenna this Tuesday, Sandrine Rousseau therefore warned against what he considers the “denial” of certain decision makers.
“We are incapable of carrying out public policies” at the height of climatic events, he worries.
“We are in denial that endangers our children. The society we leave them with is dangerous for them because we don’t want to change our lifestyle,” she warns, considering herself the first to “groan” at these “irritating” but necessary changes.
“You have to hit the brakes radically and immediately,” he adds.
The comment of the Minister of Economy is an image, according to her, of that refusal to face climate change. On Monday night on Twitter, in response to Bruno Le Maire’s comments, she launched this invitation along with a lapidary formula:
“I suggest you do one simple thing: turn on your TV, look at the lights. Your denial is criminal,” he wrote.
For the deputy, the text on purchasing power, whose examination continues this Tuesday after the session of “Questions to the government” only “aggravates” the social and ecological situation of the country.
At a meeting this morning, the Europe Ecology group Les Verts has not yet decided on its final vote, but Sandrine Rousseau has already renamed this bill: “Crumbs and a lot of carbon”.
