Despite the minister’s apologies for statements considered homophobic, LGBT associations refuse to attend a “pride dinner” at the Ministry of Equality. “What one of the members of the government says compromises all the other members”, Judge Fabien Joly, spokesman for the association of homoparental families

A week later, Caroline Cayeux’s words remain unspoken. Several LGBT associations will not attend the “pride dinner” this Wednesday night, organized by Isabelle Rome, Delegate Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Diversity and Equal Opportunities.

“Participating in a festive event poses a real problem. The government is a collegiate, united institution. What one member says ultimately compromises all the other members, at least from a symbolic point of view,” says Fabien Joly. , spokesperson for the association of homoparental families on BFMTV.

Apologies deemed insufficient

SOS Homofobia and Inter-LGBT -officially due to agenda issues- also did not respond favorably to the ministry’s invitation.

The Minister of Territorial Communities is very weakened since her controversial statements on July 13. She was asked by the Public Senate about some comments made in 2013 in which she saw in marriage for all “an unnatural design”, she said she “obviously maintain”. And the minister adds:

“I have many friends among all these people. Frankly, it is a bad judgment that they are making me and it bothered me a lot,” he added.

Despite an apology a few hours later on Twitter and then in an interview on Parisian, the government does the least service to defend it. A column by members of the majority published in the Sunday newspaper there is even the question of “its maintenance” within the executive.

“If ‘these people’ had attacked the Jews, would it have been tolerable?”

Asked several times on the subject during the questions to the Government on Tuesday, Caroline Cayeux did not answer the deputies and let Olivier Véran, the government spokesman, and Isabelle Rome defend her, reaffirming Emmanuel Macron’s will to “fight against all inequalities”.

It is not enough to convince all LGBT associations to participate in the Ministry of Equality party.

“If (the expression) ‘these people’ had targeted Jewish people, Muslims, followed by hasty apologies, sneakily to some associations, would that have been tolerable, acceptable? It seems to me that it would not have been the case. This expression is unfortunate, means something”, says Fabien Joly on our antenna.

Other associations, however, responded positively to the invitation, such as Gay Lib, the LGBT progressives or the association of gay and lesbian parents, according to information from Stubborn.
