It was an open secret but now it’s official. Louis Aliot will be a candidate for the presidency of the RN whose congress will be held on November 5.
“I will be a candidate because it is my duty with everything that Marina has achieved and everything that remains to be achieved. There is still a lot to do for our ideas to reach the head of state”, the mayor of Perpignan announced this Thursday night on BFMTV, after having previously formalized it in the columns of Opinion.
An unlikely victory
The former deputy will cross swords with Jordan Bardella, currently a great favorite. Appreciated by activists, committed to the RN since 1990 and formerly very close to Jean-Marie Le Pen, the elected official leaves with a disadvantage: he does not represent the renewal that the 26-year-old is carrying.
Crowned by 42% in the second round of Marine Le Pen’s presidential election and the entry of 89 deputies into the National Assembly on June 19 – a historic score – the MEP seems to have a boulevard ahead of him while Marine Le Pen does not represents himself. It will be the first time since 1972 that the party will not be headed by a member of his family.
Louis Aliot also assures that he believes in it with strength as iron.
“It is our members who decide and I will go spread the good word. I have no enemy (…). There will be no fratricidal and unhealthy fight as we can see in other places”, the chosen one still advances.
Le Pen neutral in battle
It is now up to the elected representative of Perpignan to collect before September 9 at least 76 signatures from members of the national council of 400, as required by the party in order to present their candidacy. The exercise is not won when his breakup with Marine Le Pen has left bad memories internally for executives.
“He does it like a foot to convince”, releases, even severely, a deputy from RN who, however, appreciates it with BFMTV.com.
Electronic voting for activists will begin on September 30 before voting closes on November 3 and the official announcement of the winner on November 5.
For her part, Marine Le Pen has already warned: she will not take a position.
