The president of the group of Republicans in the Senate, Bruno Retailleau, denounced this Thursday an “immobility” of the Government after the announcement of the postponement of the immigration bill that will first take place in a “great debate” in October in Parliament.
“The urgency claimed just a few days ago, therefore, no longer seems so urgent”, reproaches Bruno Retailleau in an interview with the Figaro. “This postponement is in fact only the consequence of the immobility to which the macronist ‘at the same time’ leads on sovereign subjects”, he continues.
The bill, announced a week ago, was due to reach the Senate “the week of October 10,” a government source said. But Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin was forced to postpone the exam at Matignon’s request.
Enough to trigger the anger of Senator LR when he congratulated himself on Wednesday for having achieved that the bill was examined first in the Senate dominated by the right and that “since the beginning of the parliamentary session”, he specifies this Friday in The Figaro.
Measures “not concrete enough”
Bruno Retailleau also criticizes the measures announced by Gérald Darmanin, “little concrete” and that “do not reach the end”.
“I warn Gérald Darmanin: immigration is no longer under control in our country,” says Bruno Retailleau. “You won’t be able to settle for a cosmetic makeover.”
He refers to the declarations of the minister who said that he wanted a “more intractable fight than ever against foreign criminals”, a “profound reform of the organization of asylum” and a “more demanding integration of foreigners”.
Gérald Darmanin mentioned in particular the conditioning of the residence permit on “obtaining a certificate attesting to proficiency in French and acceptance of the values of the Republic”, or even the abolition of provisions prohibiting the expulsion of foreign criminals ( marriage, arrival in France before the age of 13).
