Fires: Emmanuel Macron announces that several European countries will come to the aid of France

Germany, Greece, Poland, Romania, Austria and Italy will lend their support in the fight against the multiple fires that have recently broken out in the country.

France is on fire. Many departments are affected by fires, in a context of heat wave and drought. Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that several European countries will support France in its fight against the flames.

“Germany, Greece, Poland and in the next few hours Romania and Austria: our partners come to the aid of France in the face of the fires,” the head of state wrote in a tweet. “European solidarity is on the march,” he continues.

It also announces this Thursday that Italy is added to this list, by sending Canadairs to France, without specifying its quantity. “As in July, Italy remains in solidarity with France. Several Canadairs arrive to support French and European firefighters mobilized on our territory,” he tweeted.

In July, when the Gironde experienced two devastating fires, Italy and Greece had already sent air assets as reinforcements to France.

“These firefighters are our heroes”

As Élisabeth Borne and Gérald Darmanin move this Thursday through this department again engulfed in flames, where the resumption of the Landiras fire has already razed more than 6,800 hectares of vegetation, Emmanuel Macron expressed his support for the sappers on Twitter – Firefighters mobilized.

“Throughout the territory, more than 10,000 firefighters and civil security personnel are mobilized against the flames. With courage and determination they endure. These firefighters are our heroes”, writes the head of state.

He also expressed his thoughts for the families of the two firefighters who died in the intervention as well as for the “people evacuated from the burned areas” and the “victims of the disaster”.

“Save all lives, save all that can be saved, then rebuild: no one will be forgotten,” the president concludes.
