Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced Thursday that she had activated the interministerial crisis unit in the face of the situation in Corsica, where violent weather left five dead and several injured.

“Faced with the situation in Corsica, I have activated the interministerial crisis unit. We are closely following the operations that are taking place on land and sea, ”he wrote on his Twitter account.

A violent storm crossed Corsica this Thursday morning. A meteorological phenomenon that exceeded all forecasts and required the passage of the island of Beauty in orange vigilance in the Météo France emergency. Significant gusts of wind, up to 224 km/h, were also recorded in Marignana, in Corse-du-Sud.

Given the magnitude of the damage, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced that he will attend this Thursday afternoon.
