An impressive jump. The amount of aid granted to the National Federation of Hunters (FNC) experienced a meteoric rise during the first five years of Emmanuel Macron, going from 27,000 euros to 6.3 million euros in five years, according to accounts sent by the FNC to official diary on August 8 and 9, and seen by Lanceuralerte.org.
This massive increase comes in particular from the fall in the price of the national hunting permit, our colleagues from the Parisian. Awarded by the Head of State in 2018, it reduces its cost by half (from 400 to 205 euros). The decision subsequently helped attract new hunters, as the number of hunting license validation applications increased by almost 40% between 2018 and 2019.
Ces nouvelles arrivées ont permis aux revenus annuels de la Fédération de grimper à 28 million euros in 2020, even in 2021. Ils ne s’élevaient qu’à 11 million euros en moyenne les années précédentes, soit moins de half.
Repeated gestures of sympathy from Macron towards the hunters
The sympathy of Emmanuel Macron by hunting fans is well known. After having multiplied the winks in the direction of this potential electorate of 4 million people during the 2017 presidential campaign, the young president-elect publicly declared himself in favor of the restoration of the “presidential hunts”, officially suppressed under Jacques Chirac.
He then made several gestures towards hunters throughout his first five years, including the famous lowering of the price of the hunting license. The move had been perceived by many as a gift.
The same during the presidential campaign of 2022. The president of the National Federation of Hunters, Willy Schraen, officially declared his support for the candidate for president.
“Too Many Presents”
This rapid increase in the federation’s funds does not cease to arouse the annoyance of a part of the political class, in particular on the side of the environmentalists. “The new government must stop saying yes to all your demands”, irritates deputy Matthieu Orphelin in the columns of the Parisian.
“Too many gifts were made,” he denounces.
The green deputy Nicolas Thierry goes further and says that he is willing, with his field, to “seize the government to demand more transparency on the use of public money intended for hunters”.
Increase in the areas of competence of the FNC
A false controversy for the president of the FNC who denounces a series of “falsehoods” and political attacks, born of his support for Emmanuel Macron during the presidential election.
Willy Schraen reminds that the federation has recently undergone a change in its area of competence. Indeed, he must take charge, since 2019, of the management of the municipal hunting brotherhoods and the assignment of individual hunting plans, a mission previously attributed to the prefects. Hence, according to him, a larger budget to carry out this mission.
“Everything is transparent, there is not a euro of public money that is not used wisely,” insists the president of the federation.
On the executive side, we propose a change of “prerogative” regarding the issuance of the national hunting license, now attributed to the federation. An evolution that justifies, in the eyes of those around the President of the Government, the increase in his budget.
