In his words of presentation before the Council of Ministers back to school, Emmanuel Macron estimated that the country is experiencing “the end of abundance”. Several leftist political figures consider this comment inappropriate.

A bad formula. On the left, Emmanuel Macron’s comments about “the end of abundance” and “recklessness” are already heavily criticized. This Wednesday, during the opening of the Council of Ministers back to school, the President of the Republic said a few words in front of the cameras: “Basically, we are living the end of abundance”, in particular, the head of state estimated. , citing the next shortage of cash, technology or natural resources.

“I don’t know what abundance (Emmanuel Macron) was talking about,” commented France Insoumise (LFI) deputy Manuel Bompard on BFMTV. “I don’t have the impression that, in recent months, for the French it has been abundance.”

“He called for the unity of the country, but if we want unity we need justice, especially fiscal justice,” the elected official continued. “Everyone should contribute according to their means. Today, this government can make good statements about unity, but it refuses to introduce a super-profit tax.”

“As if the French had run out of worries”

Several left-leaning figures argued that the economic situation was already strained for many households. “No, but we are dreaming,” for example, deputy Fabien Roussel, a former communist candidate for the presidential elections, reacted on Twitter. “As if the French had run out of worries and had become too stuffed.”

“The precarious have never known this abundance, but nevertheless (still) it will take effort from them,” said Manon Aubry, LFI MEP.

“Low salaries and pensions compared to prices, 40% of children without vacations, students in serious precariousness, lack of caregivers… (The French) have long since abandoned ‘recklessness'”, listed Ségolène Royal.

The “ultra-rich” noted

It is also a contradiction between this serious speech and the gains displayed by some who denounce these leftist personalities. “There has never been such abundance. There has been enrichment, destruction, extraction beyond planetary limits and of many humans. One of the main culprits for this is called liberalism,” writes Europa Ecologie-les Verts (EELV) MP Sandrine Rousseau.

Still on Twitter, the LFI deputy Adrien Quatennens evokes it, “some who gorge themselves”, accompanied by a table showing the 10 strongest progressions among the great French fortunes during the last year.

“Record profits for Total, France’s European champion in paying dividends to CAC40 shareholders, explosion of private jet travel, the end of abundance does not concern the ultra-rich,” listed LFI deputy Thomas Portes.

This comment by Emmanuel Macron comes as several debates about energy sobriety arise. EELV deputy Julien Bayou, for example, has proposed banning private jets.
