Algeria: in Oran, Macron meets the directors of Disco Maghreb before an impromptu walk

In Oran, Algeria, this Saturday, the Head of State exchanged with the managers of the famous Disco Maghreb store popularized by DJ Snake, before taking a walk.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who completes a three-day visit to Algeria this Saturday, met in Oran with athletes and artists before a hectic walk. He went to the store of the Disco Maghreb label, emblematic of raï, before going to meet young people and athletes during a breakdance demonstration.

During this morning walk, the Head of State improvised a walk during which he was greeted by young people who chanted: “Macron, Macron”. But these few minutes in the middle of the crowd were cut short, as the atmosphere was electric. Emmanuel Macron wanted to leave this image of him among the multitude of young Algerians.

New dynamics of the Franco-Algerian relationship

Before leaving Algiers, he had met young businessmen and associations who asked him about visa problems, the decline of French in Algeria and the memorial dispute between the two countries.

At the beginning of the day, the Head of State went first to the port and the hermitage of Santa Cruz on the heights of Oran, which offer a bird’s-eye view of the bay of Algeria’s second largest city, bathed by the Mediterranean . The president, who arrived Friday night in Oran, a city known for its open-mindedness in the west of the country, also had dinner with the writer Kamel Daoud and other personalities from Oran.

After months of diplomatic crisis, linked to this still painful past, the presidents of France and Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced from the first day of Emmanuel Macron’s visit this Thursday a new dynamic in the relationship between the two countries.
