The president of the socialist group in the Senate, Patrick Kanner, invites the JDDthe “sincerely left-wing friends who have joined La République en Marche” to “find the path of their values” and to reject “false progressivism”.
This column entitled “Let’s turn the page on false progressivism” is a response to that of the Minister of Labor and former socialist Olivier Dussopt, a supporter of a macronist left, who called a week ago in the same weekly to “turn the page on social democracy”, believing that it should give way to “progressivism”.
“Dear sincere friends on the left who have joined La République en Marche believing in a renewal of our political spectrum, you are in fact supporting a right-wing movement,” argues Patrick Kanner.
“Social democracy has an important role to play”
“Can a government be progressive when it refuses to contribute to the national effort with companies that are reaping record profits at the expense of the French who pay increasingly expensive fuel and energy”, “when in reality it lowers social minimums” or “undoing Labor law?” Asks the senator again.
In this context, “social democracy has an important role to play”, advocates Patrick Kanner, calling for “a change of course: the reforms must aim at a fairer social organization”.
“Dear sincere friends on the left, wake up. If you consider yourself the ‘progressive wing’ of a right-wing liberal movement, you are wrong,” the senator continues. “Know how to find the path to your values. It is not too late”, he concludes.
