The President of the Republic will hold a Defense Council this Friday morning. He will be dedicated to the supply of gas and electricity, given the increase in energy prices and in anticipation of this winter.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, will chair a Defense Council on Friday morning, BFMTV learned from concordant sources, confirming information from Franceinfo. The Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, or the Minister for the Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, will participate in particular.

Initially reserved, as its name suggests, for defense issues, the Head of State had strongly supported this type of format at the time of the Covid crisis. He had also chaired it on the ecological issue. But this is the first time that this Council has dealt specifically with the issue of energy.

“We only have one way, the energy drop”

Invited to Medef’s back to school meeting, Élisabeth Borne also spoke on the subject of energy. Given the risk of cuts this winter “we only have one way, the reduction of energy consumption”, estimates the President of the Government. He adds that companies could be affected by “rationing” and urges each to take their own energy sobriety measures.

At the European Union level, an emergency meeting on the issue will be held between EU energy ministers who will hold emergency talks on September 9, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela said on Monday.
