Chess legend Anatoli Karpov is in intensive care after suffering a blow to the head

former world chess champion Anatoly Karpov71 years old, suffered a head injury due to a domestic accident and is now in a pharmacological coma in one of the main hospitals in the Russian capital, according to what his daughter Sofia said today.

The daughter of the famous chess player denied in statements to the Russian media Mixture who had been the victim of an attack last Saturday, according to several Telegram channels and digital publications.

Karpov is currently in a state of coma induced in the intensive care unit of the hospital’s neurology department Sklifosovsky of Moscow, one of the most prestigious medical centers in the Russian capital.

Earlier, Russian Telegram channel 112 reported this the chess player was found unconscious last Saturday next to the headquarters of the Russian Dumaand that the doctors had diagnosed him with a head injury, a fracture of the right hip and a severe state of intoxication.

Karpov was world champion between 1975 and 1985, when he was defeated by fellow countryman Garri Kasparov, and is currently a member of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament.

The Russian agency RIA Nóvosti confirmed with hospital sources that the former chess player is hospitalized in serious condition, however it cited the denial of the head of public relations of the Russian Chess Federation, Kiril Zangalis, who denied that it was an attack.

“The information that Anatoli Karpov was beaten does not correspond to reality. This is fake news,” he said.
