Gerard Piqué has reappeared publicly through social networks to announce that he will no longer be a player of the Barcelonaand that this Saturday will be his last game in the club where he grew up as a footballer.
He did so through a moving video in which he reaffirms his feeling for the institution and where he clarifies that his position is also due to the criticisms received in recent times.
“Culers, I have to tell you something,” says Piqué’s video, in which he expresses himself in Catalan but with Spanish subtitles.
Piqué’s video shows him contemplating the Mediterranean city and in the background all the criticisms received in recent times, where he failed to join the team led by Xavi Hernández, not to mention the personal conflicts he suffered after his separation from Shakira.
“Culers, I’m Gerard. Many people have been talking about me for weeks, months. I haven’t said anything so far. But now I want to be the one talking to them about me”, the footballer, winner of 30 titles at Barcelona, begins.
The sequence shows a small Piqué, with the Barcelona shirt, and him looking at the images with tears in his eyes. “Like many of you, I have always been a Barça fan. I was born into a very footballing and very culé family,” he explains.
And then he affirms, in a whole declaration of principles: “From an early age I didn’t want to be a footballer, I wanted to be a Barça player”.
“Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about that boy, what little Gerard would have thought if he had been told that he would make all his dreams come true. That he would make it to the first team at Barça, that he would win all possible titles, that he would be champion Europe and the world, which I would have played alongside the best in history “, reflects Piqué.
And he adds: “That he would be a captain and that he would be friends forever.”
“25 years ago I arrived at Barcelona. I left and came back. Football gave me everything, Barca gave me everything. You Catalans gave me everything”, explains Piqué, while the video shows him in the stands of the Camp Nou .
