The long, grueling, grueling and successful season for Boca is over. A squad that, beyond the closing of the Champions Trophy – stained by the refereeing performance of Facundo Tello and the excessive reaction of the squad – had won the two most important titles of the year and that in 2023 will have more finals to hit. But now Hugo Ibarra gave them a well deserved rest, which will last until December 6 then stop again for the end of the year and run the preseason from January.

But while the players rest with the World Cup in Qatar, absorbing all the eyes of the world of football, inside you follow the intimacy of Boca Predio. there is no rest there. Because this week there will be meetings with the technical staff, with the members of the Reserve and also with various representatives of the players. There is still a lot to work on, even if the ball no longer rolls in national football.

The work of the coaching staff, as said from the beginning and ratified by each member of the Football Council in recent months, was expected until December. And in several places they not only exceeded expectations (they were league champions, they gave impetus to the youth teams and even some players recovered in indebted performances) but they came across other favorable asterisks, such as the recognition of the team managers, something questioned when Ibarra took office before Sebastián Battaglia’s departure.

But everything will still be put on the table. The little football flight, Leandro Gracián’s good work in evaluating and planning matches, Ibarra’s idea for his 2023 and even whether or not Mariano Herrón joins the job as he did with Miguel Russo and Battaglia, before getting off al Libro for being a two-time champion there. Unlike what happened with Battaglia in December 2021, when he won the Argentine Cup, now there are no commitments or old promises with the manager. The Riquelme – Ibarra relationship goes in the same direction, added to that of the coaching staff with the entire Football Council.

Even Ibarra has never publicly expressed a desire to continue leading the team for next year.. And he entered his role as an interim manager with goals ahead of him during a 2022 transition that went much better than he imagined. Only after these meetings will a joint decision be made whether to continue in this way or try to raise the bar also by the technical staff. With a detail: now it will also be River to test a DT with little experience during the Libertadores. The mirror effect always plays.

The immediate will be the answer of Agostino Rossi (of bad performance in the final with Racing) for the renewal of the contract. And once the goalkeeper has resolved his situation, he will continue with other surnames on the list, those for which offers will also be heard. As always happens in Boca, and driven by the world economic situation, there are no non-tradable players.

And every World Cup year tends to lead to club moves. For this reason, two and a half months before returning to compete, the club will not move urgently to resolve the transfers (they will be able to move to Matteo Retegui towards Europe), recruitment (there is a list of players with central scorers and forwards set as priorities) as well as departures and returns of young people from the institutions. It will be a long pause. And Boca, with the trophies in the 2022 bag, will move calmly.
