The Senegalese striker Sadio Manè will miss the Qatar World Cup after Tuesday’s injury, the newspaper L’Equipe reported today, indicating that the player suffers from a hamstring problem.
Sané will be away from the playing fields for several weeks and will not be able to reach the World Cup starting on the 20th, the French media add.
After feeling uneasy, the player left the Bundesliga match between his club Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening (which ended with a 6-1 win for the Bavarians).
This is a low tone for the Senegalese team, of which Mané is the main figure.
Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations in January and Mané was named the best player of the tournament. In October he finished second in the standings Golden Ball after the madridista Karim Benzema.
The Senegalese team is drawn into Group A of the World Cup, together with the Netherlands, Ecuador and Qatar, which they host.
