Lucas Villarroel is a young man from Trelew, in Chubut, who has decided to go to the World Cup. It is clear that, like so many others, he did not have the financial support to do so. Even so, in July he embarked on the journey: he covered 24,000 kilometers in a month and a half and he has been in Qatar since September.

The way to subsist is the well gas: He sleeps in a tent on the street, drinks water from the fountains and orders food in restaurants. He started with only one thousand euros and wants to stay until the end of the World Cup. “I sold an old truck my grandfather gave me and I came here. I didn’t care at all,” he admits.

“On 1 August I was already in Spain; I arrived early because I didn’t have tickets, I missed three flights and that’s how we are, low cost ”, says the Argentine in an interview conducted by TyC Sports.

The journey was tremendous. Lima, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Paris, Turkey, until landing in Qatar. The desire to see the national team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup was stronger.

“I arrived in Qatar with 1,000 euros. I spent three days without sleep because they chased me away – she admits without hesitation -. Lucas has been here since September. And he shares his experience in front of the cameras on how to survive in Doha with a thousand euros. “Eating here is cheap, what costs a lot is accommodation. You have to have money to stay in any house or hotel.”

During the first weeks in the country of the Arabian Peninsula, he was hosted by some residents: “Some people helped me and made me sleep in their homes, from Syria, Jordan. It’s all very strange, but they love us very much, Argentines I don’t know, it must be because of Maradona, because of Messi, they love us “, he underlines.

It is not easy to be in Qatar and sleep on the street. “I sleep in sections on different sides, and at any time of day: two or three hours, no more. I usually spend the night wandering around so as not to be caught by the police. I move constantly so as not to attract attention,” he shares. Luke.

Lucas travels with a flag that he intends to show the world if he enters a national team game: “Trelew, Esquel, Chubut, Present Wig, Qatar 2022 ″, he says on the rag.
