The initial proposal was for Argentina and Uruguay to join together to host the 2030 World Cup. The image of Luis Suarez Y Leone Messi in the preview of a 2017 qualifying match, one with the Uruguayan jersey and number 20 and the other with Argentina and 30, they finished formalizing that candidacy.
Months passed and no one got off the ship, quite the contrary. Then he added Paraguay and more recently Kilos. It’s an idea that generates great enthusiasm, that’s why since Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Nation was created “Society Together 2030”, an organization that has “the purpose of developing actions aimed at joint application”.
It is detailed in this document which bears the signature of the Minister of Tourism and Sport Mattia Lammens, the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Giovanni Luigi Manzur and the Minister of Defense Enrico Taiana, that the headquarters of this new company will be Santiago de Chile.
Furthermore, it is clarified that the Ministry led by the former president of San Lorenzo will have the task of “designating the representatives of the national state to integrate the various organic bodies of the aforementioned Association ‘Corporazione Insieme 2030′”.
The topics to host
The document published in the Official Gazette describes what are the cards that South America intends to bring to FIFA to stay with the 2030 World Cup, the venue that will be played with another joint proposal, the one promoted by Spain, Portugal and the recently added Ukraine, as symbol of hope awaiting the ceasefire in the war with Russia.
The text recalls that in 2002 a joint World Cup took place for the first time, in relation to the joint offices of Korea and Japan, and that the next one in 2026 will be in the same way, between Canada, the United States and Mexico. This modality, they say in the Presidency, will cease to be an exception to become “the rule in subsequent events”.
Furthermore, it is explained that the sharing of the headquarters is advantageous in economic terms: it allows the costs and risks of the organization to be distributed, improves the tourist attractiveness of the region and enhances it in terms of future integration and cooperation.
And in the end, a review of the history of this union of the Southern Cone in search of the World Cup is made: we recall a “Memorandum of Understanding on Trinational Cooperation” signed on 21 September 2017 by Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, which was established in Chile in 2019.
The strongest card South America has to win the 2030 World Cup is the date: it will be 100 years since the first World Cup, held in Uruguay. “Now or never, football deserves to go back to its roots; they (for Europe) will have the opportunity to organize it at another time,” comment the most optimistic leaders.
Under the guidelines, the “Corporation 2030” committee has a year or so to work on this joint headquarters project as FIFA plans to announce the 2030 World Cup in one of its 2024 matches.
