It concerns Mario Agustín Salvador Sutton, who this Saturday was crowned in the men’s 35-39 division by completing the test of swimming, cycling and running in 2 hours and 36 seconds.

Joining him on the podium were Andrey Sharipov, from Uzbekistan – who reached the finish line more than 20 seconds later – and Audie Mcrae, from the USA, who started third after covering just over 2 hours and 2 minutes.

The champion is an agronomist specialized in agri-food industries and has lived in Europe since he was 3 years old. Currently he is successful in the Dutch dairy industry.

Salvador Sutton’s score in this edition of the World Triathlon, as the competition is known, is a major victory in his career and a goal he has been working towards for some time.

In this sense, in 2021 he had come very close to the podium by completing the triathlon in 2 hours 4 minutes and 4 seconds, number 4 in the rankings.

Farthest from his current score, he was ranked number 24 in the 2019 edition after reaching his goal in 02:15:03.

the world champion

Frenchman Léo Bergère was proclaimed triathlon world champion this Saturday, after winning the thrilling final of the WTCS circuit in Abu Dhabi.

To win the title, Bergère, who started third, needed – as well as winning – the number 1, the New Zealander Hayden Wilde, to be excluded from the ‘Top 5’ and the Briton Alex Yee, number 2, to fall off the podium.

The latter completed his turn with a sprint from Belgian Jelle Geens to take third position from Yee in the closing meters and thus leave Bergère with victory on a platter.

Bergère, 26, who incidentally took his first stage win on the WTCS circuit, became the third Frenchman to be world champion in the discipline, after Olivier Marceau (2000) and Vincent Luis (2019 and 2020).

With this victory he concluded a successful season, in which he also won the continental crown in August in Munich.
