Facundo Campazzo’s relationship with the Dallas Mavericks appears to have been much less than a summer romance. This Monday, information from journalists specializing in the NBA which is usually not lacking in their publications assures that the Cordovan point guard will see the contract terminated to sign Kemba Walker, with the aim of changing the course of a season that has so far been been lean in terms of results.

When the Argentine signed a contract with Dallas a few days before the start of the 2022/23 season, he knew he would have to work to earn his place in the team led by Jason Kiddthat he already had others three players who play – or can play – in their position. Statistics then confirmed that reality.

And now, the four straight defeats suffered by the Texan franchise, currently outside the qualifying zone for the Western Conference title fight, have made its owner change the helm. Marco Cubanoeven bypassing the general manager, Nico Harrison.

To sign Walker, 32 years old and four times ‘All-Star’, the Mavericks must cancel Campazzo’s file, according to the specialized portal “The Athletic”.

Campazzo played the last two seasons in Denver, a team he joined in 2020. Last season he averaged 5.1 points per game and distributed 3.4 assists, in 18.2 minutes on the field, slightly lower than those of 2020/twenty-one.

After the Nuggets decided not to renew his contract, he bet everything on his continuity in the NBA and waited patiently for an offer. And when it seemed that this new opportunity would not come – he had already started talking to Real Madrid about returning to Spain – the Mavericks opened the door for him. He signed on October 18th.

But his impact on the team hasn’t been as expected, aside from the fact that the 31-year-old point guard hasn’t had many chances even in the game: he averaged 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 6.5 minutes on the field.

The Mavericks are 11th in the Western Conference with a 10-11 record and are on a four-game losing streak, the most recent of which was this Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

How does your future work out?

The specialized site basketplus. com explained that Campazzo will be 48 hours in the period of waivers, where another NBA team could take his contract, something that’s a foregone conclusion won’t happen. And then all roads would lead to a return to Europe.

What we will begin to hypothesize is a return to real Madridif he Anadolu from Turkey is still just as interested after his rocky start in the Euroleague, if fenerbahçe further enhances his excellent momentum (he’s in the lead with 9-1), or if a ‘covered’ like Milan appears (last in the standings).
