It’s been four years but for River fans it seems like yesterday. The social profiles of millionaire fans repeat stories, videos and messages that recall the most important victory in its history and the club, like every December 9, joined the celebrations for a new anniversary of the consecration against Boca in the Copa Libertadores final which was played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, the home of Real Madrid.
“It’s twelve o’clock, close your eyes and make three wishes”, announces the start of the video, with white letters, on a black background and suspenseful music. The video lasts just one minute and 13 seconds, but it is enough for thousands of millionaire fans to make it their own and replicate it on their social networks.
In order and accompanied by music that makes each scene more epic, the three goals with which Marcelo Gallardo’s team turned the game around Boca (they had taken the lead with a goal from Darío Benedetto) and unleashed endless celebrations. The story of Mariano Closs accompanies each comedy and closes with the already emblematic “and the third goes” at the heart of Gonzalo “Pity” Martínez’s rush to seal the consecration.
Then follow the festivities, the fireworks and the party in a packed Monumental Stadium. The black background and white lettering return: “Your wishes have been granted. And they are eternal. Happy 9/12,” the video concludes.
The consecration against Boca in that chaotic and at times scandalous definition of the Copa Libertadores de América which settled in Europe is the most important conquest in River’s history. It is for the millionaire “the Eternal Cup” and this is how clubs and fans celebrate it every December 9th.
The celebrations of this 2022 have a different flavor for River fans, given that the architect of that epic consecration has left the club after more than eight years. Marcelo Gallardo greeted millionaire fans weeks ago in a packed Monumental stadium.
New in development.
