“The firefighters created a chain of lights to give light to those who descended and accompanied them until the last one withdrew,” they added.

Faced with the repeated attacks against the Obelisk and the fear that they would be repeated during the day – when the number of calls was increasing due to the expectation generated by the passage of Lionel Messi and his companions from Scaleneta -, the Municipality took a measure drastic once the evacuation is complete: they cut the ladder so that no one else gets on.

“Partial cutting of the staircase was carried out, anchoring the entrance to the first landing to prevent public access”, specified sources in Buenos Aires.

Furthermore, the access door was welded again, a measure that was taken even after the hospitalizations on Sunday, when numerous graffiti were also made on the base of the monument.

Minister’s request

In anticipation of the impressive celebration, the Minister of Security and Justice of Buenos Aires, Marcelo D’Alessandro, appealed to the responsibility of each person so that they do not climb on the structures and that there are no injuries during the celebrations.

“From 5 in the morning we work to get people off where they get on. They even climbed the Colón pergola. The security forces will work together, but we must appeal to accountability,” the official said in dialogue with Radio Continental.

“The police forces are about to drop those who have climbed the Obelisk. They went with a club to break down the door of the Obelisk to climb. These violent people do not represent the party of the people”, he added in relation to the last vandalism of the monument in Buenos Aires.

Finally, the official reiterated the request for people “to fully stretch out” to take the bus with the players of the Argentine team “because if there are many people in the Obelisk it will be impossible for the bus to get there“.
