With a heartfelt open letter entitled “South America is the home of the best football in the world”, Conmebol expressed itself on its official websites after the consecration of the Argentine national team as world champion.
Through a tweet Conmebol has published the open letter and expressed: “And, after an epic fight, the dream of millions has come true. The World Cup returns to Argentina and South America, the land of the best football in the world.”
What does the letter say.
And, after an epic fight, the dream of millions has come true. The World Cup returns to Argentina and South America, the land of the best football in the world.
In what was perhaps the most exciting final in World Cup history, the Argentine team won the World Cup for the third time, the trophy coveted by every footballer on the planet. This conquest was not accidental or a fluke. Y nobody gave anything to the albiceleste. It is the fruit of the talent and determination of the players, the responsible and methodical work of the coaching staff, the vision and commitment of the management and the faith and drive of millions of fans in Argentina and on the continent.
Our heartfelt congratulations to the captain, Lionel Messi and his companions, to the coach Lionel Scaloni and his technical staff, to the president Claudio Tapia and his collaborators, and to all the Argentine people for this more than deserved World Cup. In situations where many other teams would have collapsed, the Argentine team has bet on unity, maintained confidence and concentration and has always believed in Grande to reach the pinnacle of world sport. OhGreetings, World Champions!!.
At Conmebol we collaborate as much as possible with the four South American teams that have qualified for the World Cup. For this reason we have instituted a prize of U$D 10,000,000 for the team from the continent that will win the tournament, an amount that we have already handed over to the albiceleste in the same dressing room as the World Champion, a few minutes after that unforgettable final.
Moreover, Conmebol has brought all the history, color and joy of South American football to Qatar through an unprecedented initiative: the Tree of Dreams, the home of Conmebol in Doha. More than 100,000 people visited the venue which has become a must visit for fans from all over the world who have relocated to Qatar. Pelé and Maradona, the best soccer players in history, received tributes in this unique space, which replicated a neighborhood of any South American city.
The intention was also to show the world the special relationship that South America has with football, a fundamental part of the cultural DNA of our continent. In honor of that history and that passion, we want the 2030 World Cup to be played in Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile. We want the ball to roll back to where it all began 100 years later.
I just have to thank Qatar and its authorities for their hospitality and warmth which they have demonstrated at all times. It is also right to congratulate him on a tournament that will remain forever in the history of sport. Congratulations also to FIFA for the magnificent organisation. Thanks to the Conmebol team for the effort and dedication of several weeks.
Let’s keep believing it big!
Alejandro Dominguez, president of Conmebol
