The Argentina national team gave the blow Qatar and won again world after no less than 36 years. Upon their arrival in the country, the protagonists were greeted by more than 5 million people who filled the streets of Buenos Aires, in gratitude for a historic World Cup that even exceeded expectations. But if it’s about conforming, the ones that have to conform now are the fans, and the tattoo promise is one of the most repeated.
This is the case of Román Martínez, a fan who lives in Ramos Mejía and who is starting to go viral right now due to a curious request. After celebrating the consecration of the national team, Román didn’t hesitate and immediately went to the Parchant House tattoo studio, run by some friends. According to what he says, the idea of immortalizing Argentina’s goal in a tattoo had already been considered for some time, but the novelty has to do with the curious design that he chose.
The La Matanza native immortalized Dibu Martínez in one of his legs, but not by lifting the World Cup or covering that one-on-one against Frenchman Kolo Muani, but by making his controversial gesture with the golden glove in hand. After receiving the honour, the goalkeeper of the Argentina national team rested the trophy on his body, creating a postcard that went around the world. Román took that picture, added the date of the consecration, three gold stars above it, and turned it into a tattoo.
“We came thinking about what tattoo to get if Argentina were champions, and when Dibu made that gesture I said ‘I’m going to tattoo Dibu doing that’. I sent it to one of his friends, I told him I wanted him to if he did I tattooed it and he did it”, commented Martínez, who also explained that one of the drawings that the group of friends had in mind was that of the sun on the Argentine flag, until he went ahead and tackled his project: get a tattoo in tribute to Dibu Martinez.
In any case, he explained that his fanaticism around the figure of the goalkeeper was not born from the meeting on Sunday, and that the idea of the tattoo was already gaining momentum: “I wanted to do something for Dibu, I said ‘This boy is that I’m crazy, I have to do something with him.” I like the way it is, but didn’t know what to make of myself. I had the idea to do the parade last minute, in the form of a silhouette, but when I saw Dibu doing it next to the sheikh I saw that he didn’t care at all, and that’s when I decided on that tattoo“.
Today, Román is asking for help on social networks for his request to go viral, while trying to crown this fantastic tattoo with the protagonist’s signature. Through his Instagram, he wrote, “Let this go viral. I need Dibu to sign me under the tattoo.” Furthermore, he explained the process of the piece: “I looked for the image, passed it to my friend and we did it last night, quite late. My friend was tattooing his brother, who took Messi, and when he finished he started with me”.
And just as the networks were full of comments on Román’s tattoo, in his environment they also echoed this promise kept. “My girlfriend wanted to kill me, she said she couldn’t believe what she was doing to me. She told me I was crazy, ah. My brother loved it, we were already talking to him about buying the Dibu jersey. Then I showed it to my friends and they started laughing, they told me it was awful.”
Regarding the almost cartoonish design he chose, he explained: “It’s not realism, we wanted it to be a silhouette, something more calm. But hey, you see it and you realize it’s him. Then we put the stars for the three championships and the Data”. Talking about what the goalkeeper represents for him, he added: “When he arrived in the national team I wanted to see him start. It’s crazy, as it was at the time with Goycochea and then with Pato -Abbondanzieri-, every kid who throws to penalty Dibu’s name screams at you, he’s a genius”.
His admiration for Dibu Martínez
“I met him in the FA Cup final in which Arsenal finished as champions, when he came on because the other goalkeeper was injured. I was at my parents’ house and when we saw him save we couldn’t believe it. They put him in a final and the guy interrupted it as if nothing had happened,” explained Román, who spoke in depth about his admiration for the goalkeeper. Furthermore, he said: “When Argentina played against the Netherlands and spoke before taking the field, he seemed like a genius to me, it’s incredible how he uses psychology”.
Román fully immersed himself in Dibu Martínez’s relationship with psychology, another of the issues that leads him to admire him in this way, and commented: “He has no problem telling anything. Players are thought to never have problems , and tells them like me, that I could tell you that I went to the psychologist because I had a problem, he takes it down in a different way, you realize that he experiences it and feels it in a different way, you see that he is very human, and also the the fact that you talk about both the brother and the parents is very nice.”
Finally, he elaborated on the request he made on the net, and said, “The idea of the tattoo is to make it go viral so that Dibu signs me and I can tattoo it. To finish the tattoo, I must have his signature under the silhouette. We’ve already talked about it, if Dibu tells us to go to Mar del Plata, the guys cancel all shifts and we go there together. I have hope, especially now with the whole social networking thing. We know you can get there.”
“We have to hurry, otherwise we will go to England and we will have to ask Santi Maratea to raise funds to go and look for the signature there,” concluded with a laugh Román, who now tries to attract the attention of his idol so as to be able to complete the tattoo. For now, the publication that he has created continues to add interactions and more and more figures are tagged in search of achieving the great goal: to reach Dibu Martínez.
