Cycling is one of Lionel Scaloni’s favorite hobbies outside of football and he proved it once again before celebrating Christmas. Is that the coach of the Argentine national team, who is enjoying a few days off in Pujato after winning the World Cup, he got on his bike, rode the streets of his hometown and received the affection of its neighbors.

Dress up with a matching jersey and helmetthe 44-year-old coach, who had an emotional tribute in his hometown last Wednesday, responded this Saturday to every one of the requests people made during his tour.

This is how the Argentine coach agreed to sign autographs and take pictures with people at the door of his house, both with that suit and with the official one of the national team. “She comes out at the door of his house in Pujato. He signs and takes pictures with absolutely everyone. The world champion coach,” wrote @FedeNewells74 on Twitter, one of the users who described the coach’s outdoor activities.

Another Internet user depicted a funny situation, along with a photo in which the world champion’s driver signs some fans. “My friend’s family left Pujato because they said they could meet Scaloni, my friend wanted to join us instead of leaving. Guess which family Scaloni knew,” posted @martiavalos3.

The concrete thing is that when the man from Santa Fe decided to end his career as a professional soccer player, he started practicing cycling, releasing the energies he previously left on the field and, coincidentally, performing healthy activity.

However, playing the sport did give him some fear in April 2019, when he suffered a car accident when he was hit by a vehicle in front of his daughters’ school in Mallorca, Spain.

In summary, the former Newell’s and Estudiantes de La Plata footballer was cycling along the road that surrounds the Ágora school in Portals Nous, in one of the most elegant areas of the island, when was hit by a reversing Toyotawhich caused him to fall and hit the ground.

The fall left him with bruises on his arms and face. An ambulance reached him at the scene and transferred him to Son Espases hospital, where he was treated.

“A car drove out of the parking lot of my son’s school upside down, I was on my bike and hit it. I opened my head a little and nothing else. They put stitches on me and that was it,” Scaloni said in a WhatsApp audio that was released shortly after the incident.

Scaloni had established his residence in Mallorca, after passing through the city club, with which he played two seasons, 2007/08 and 2008/09. Previously he had also played for West Ham United, Deportivo La Coruña, Racing de Santander, Lazio.

A few years after retiring from Atalanta, he joined Jorge Sampaoli’s coaching staff at Sevilla and the Argentina national team and, after Casildense’s farewell, took over the reins of the team first as a starter and then as a starter, until he achieved the feat to become champion of the Copa América, the Final and the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

At the moment, his stay in the Argentine national team is not fully confirmed, despite the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, having expressed himself in this sense last September, before the World Cup. “There is Scaloneta for a while,” said the head of the parent company of Argentine football at the time, who assured that Scaloni would continue until 2026.

Lionel Scaloni, awarded in Pujato

“I thought I already cried about everything,” said the 44-year-old DT, accompanied by ‘Chichita’, one of his childhood teachers, when he was honored on a small stage set up in the center of Pujato, a town of just over 4,000 inhabitants located 40 kilometers from Rosario, in Santa Fe.

A few minutes earlier he had traveled in a caravan, much less crowded but tidier than the one he had lived in Buenos Aires 24 hours earlier and which had to end abruptly due to overflowing in various passages.

Pujato, until that day, had an unnamed street, but not anymore. Because the head of the community, Daniel Quacquarini, has publicly announced that this path located between Simón de Iriondo and Alem will be baptized as “Lionel Scaloni”.
