Argentinian by choice Alejandro Garnacho is well among Manchester United fans. He is the football hope of a new era led by coach Erik ten Hag, who gives him minutes and confidence despite his 18 years. This Tuesday, during the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory over Nottingham, the youngster born in Spain but with an Argentinian mother, fans adapted a typical song they sang to Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo – who resigned with the club in the middle of the World Cup from Qatar- to put the surname of the winger.

“Long Live the Grenache”, was heard from the stands of the Old Trafford stadium when DT sent him onto the field in the 64th minute for the Brazilian Antony. In the end he was booked, but he left some interesting strokes of speed and individual technique that cheered up the fans.

It was the first game at Old Trafford after the agitated World Cup lull, in which Cristiano Ronaldo’s abrupt exit from the club was confirmed, but there was no room for suspense.

Marcus Rashford (19′) and France’s Anthony Martial (22′) gave the home side the lead shortly after the start of the game and Brazil’s Fred sealed the win following a pass from his compatriot Casemiro (87′).

With this win, United reached 29 points, just one behind Tottenham, albeit with one game less to play.

Before Chelsea dominated the match against bournemouth -whose starter was the Argentinian defender Marcos Senesi- won 2-0, thanks to the German’s goals Kai Havertz (16) and Mount Massone (24).

Despite defeats by Frenchman N’Golo Kanté, who has not yet recovered from his injuries, and World Cup winners Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea gave their rival no respite until the final quarter of an hour and could have beaten if they had exploited the clear chances of Mount and Sterling (both in the first half of added time) and of Zakaria (53), Havertz (60), Jorginho (64) and Koulibaly (73) in the second period.

This victory allows Chelsea to relaunch after a series of poor results in the weeks leading up to the World Cup in Qatar. With 24 points, the ‘Blues’ occupy eighth place in the table, six behind Tottenham, who also have a game more.

Wednesday 17 will close with a visit to leeds of the outgoing sample Manchester Citywho need victory to regain second place in the league, now occupied by Newcastle, but above all not to let Arsenal escape, who with Monday’s 3-1 victory against West Ham consolidate their lead with 40 points (on 45 possible), eight more than the ‘Citizens’.
