The president of the province took part in the act which changed the name of the Monte Boffa park, located in the municipality of Coronel Vidal.

The deed sparked controversy after the opposition pointed out that it was a political manipulation of the title obtained by Lionel Scaloni’s team. Indeed, the space of Together for Change declined to support the initiative.

As expected, criticism from the opposition was followed by an official statement supporting the renaming of that public space.

“To be honest, today there are no excuses. Faced with a sporting feat of this kind, which in almost 100 years of World Cup history, our country has only been able to achieve three times, with world-class personalities such as Mario Kempes, Diego Armando Maradona and today Leonel A Messi, Mar Chiquita’s party, chaired by Mayor Jorge Paredi, wants to pay tribute a Selection which brought great joy to the people Argentinean,” claims the communiqué published by Mar de Chiquita’s Justicialist Party.

The opposition defended the decision not to accompany the initiative, arguing that, in this way, they respect “the will of the national football team, which he didn’t want political echo of any kind with his World Cup victory”.

Kicillof, who arrived in that city for the delivery of a hundred new homes, was accompanied by the Minister of Territorial Development and Habitat, Santiago Maggiotti, by the head of Habitat and Urban Development of Buenos Aires, Agustín Simone, and by the mayor of Mar Chiquita, George Paredi.

“With @Kicillofok, @smaggiotti and the ministers we shared the deed in the brand new municipal park ‘La Scaloneta’, a name we chose in honor of teamwork, commitment and camaraderie,” Paredi wrote on Twitter.
