Anyone who says basketball isn’t a strong contact sport is lying. Shot situations happen more often than you think when the orange is pungent. Although the NBA tries to limit friction as much as possible, the hot moments between the players continue to occur. This Wednesday evening, Moritz Wagner was knocked out after receiving a blow from behind.
It was in the game between the Detroit Pistons and the Orlando Magic that the situation developed. Little Caesars Arena, home of the Pistons, has already seen its team consistently wrapped up in donuts, even more so in the late 1980s, when the then-Bad Boys used the techniques, or rather sheer force, known as the Jordan Rules to stop 23 .
In the final minute of the second quarter, as the ball was about to leave the field, Moe Wagner (21) body-wrapped Killiam Hayes (7) and ended up stopping his clean hitting against the substitutes bench. The Detroit player reacted hot, went looking for Wagner and ended up throwing a punch to the back of the head that left him unconscious.
Hayes’ blow to Wagner
The two players involved in the brawl were ejected, as was Hamidou Diallo (6) of the Detroit Pistons, for pushing Wagner from behind before he received the punch that knocked him out.
The match, between two of the worst teams in the NBA and last in the standings in the Eastern Conference, ended with a landslide 121 to 101 victory by the locals.
Both teams have little hope of reversing their current situation and fighting for a playoff spot. Going forward, they will be looking to turn their luck with the 2023 NBA Draft picks, who come loaded with a lot of talent and one of the most outlandish players seen in recent years.
