Lionel Messi, the world champion crowned with Argentina in Qatar in December, returned to Paris Saint-Germain’s training center on Wednesday, the French capital club announced.
The 35-year-old seven-time Ballon d’Or winner traveled to France on Monday evening with his family from his hometown of Rosario. They landed on Tuesday at Bourget airport, north of Paris.
After the big celebrations for the title of world champion conquered with Scaloneta, the striker enjoyed the Christmas holidays with his family.
Messi is the latest of PSG’s World Cup players to return to retirement.
Kylian Mbappé, his opponent in the great World Cup final (3-3 after extra time, 4-2 on penalties for Argentina against France), as well as Achraf Hakimi, fourth in the World Cup with the Moroccan team, who returned from December 21 , just three days after the end of the competition.
The two players featured in the two games PSG have played since then in Ligue 1 (2-1 win against Strasbourg, 3-1 defeat at Lens), before starting ten rest days.
PSG play a French Cup 32nd round match in Chateauroux on Friday, normally without Messi, who could return to the competition by hosting Angers in Ligue 1 next Wednesday.
