The draw prevented them from the remote possibility of winning their zone and directly accessing the quarter-finals, a right that Australia earned with victory over South Africa 9-2 in the first round. The Oceanics closed with 7 units, the Lions with 5, France with 4 and the South Africans, without units.

The Lions finished this stage unbeaten with a 1-0 win over South Africa (goals from Maico Casella) plus a commendable 3-3 draw against title favorites Australia with goals from Tomás Dómene, Maico Box and Martín Ferreiro.
