The debut of the Argentina Under 20 national team in the Copa Sudamericana in Colombia ended with a great scare: the talented midfielder Facundo Buonanotte (18 years old) was released on a stretcher and with an orthopedic neck and was transferred by ambulance to the central hospital in due to a heavy fall suffered after jumping onto the field.
There were six minutes left in the duel when Juvenil, who came on 15′ into the second half, launched himself to try to win a ball from above and fell to the ground on his back as he descended and – after a whiplash – he slammed the head against the grass. The former Rosario Central thought of sharing the ball with the Paraguayan Quintana, but he ran so much that Buonanotte lost his reference.
Immovable, his teammates surrounded him so that the cameras did not film the images and the referee asked for the immediate entry of the doctors. Paramedics placed him in a neck brace and immobilized him on a stretcher. When play resumed, the midfielder was taken away by ambulance.
It must be said that Buonanotte never lost consciousness and even seemed to ask to be held in order to continue playing. In any case, AFA medical historian, Donato tucho Villani, together with his collaborator, Juan Cruz Goycochea, son of Sergio, decided to immobilize the footballer as a precaution and to transfer him to a nearby clinic to carry out the corresponding studies.
It is worth mentioning that Buonanotte is one of the figures in the cast led by Mascherano. Along with Real Madrid’s Nicolás Paz, they were the only two on loan who play for teams abroad. Last November, Buonanotte was sold by Rosario Central to English Brighton for eleven and a half million euros including bonuses.
