How is the GEN3, the lightest and most powerful electric car making its debut in Saudi Arabia

The CORE Diriyah E-Prix 2023 double race will take place on Friday 27 January and Saturday 28 January and will be the Middle East debut of the GEN3, the fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient electric racing car ever built.

Fans attending the race will see two iconic names in motorsport, McLaren and Maserati, line up on the Formula E grid for the first time in Diriyah, where they will compete with Porsche, Jaguar and Nissan among the 11 teams and 22 drivers of the Formula E ABB FIA Formula E.

The GEN3 represents a huge leap in technological development and innovation with engineers from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and Formula E pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle development.

Capable of a top speed of 200mph (322km/h), the GEN3 is 53kg lighter than the GEN2 with a smaller chassis optimized for road racing. An additional front powertrain adds 250kW to the rear 350kW, more than double the regenerative capacity of the previous 600kW GEN2 car, with over 40% of the energy used in racing regenerated under braking.

As title sponsor, CORE will feature prominently on the 2,495km, 21-turn circuit located within the historic UNESCO World Heritage city walls on the outskirts of Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh. As the only night race on the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar, it will be lit using energy efficient LED technology.
