The fever for the World Cup does not stop. Now, Mar del Plata already has the former Statue of Lionel Messi with the three stars. And it’s all the rage since this last weekend. It is located in Spa 12 of the Punta Mogotes complex, and thousands of people from Mar del Plata and tourists line up to take a photo.
The statue of the captain of the national team weighs more than 100 kilos and was installed over the past weekend, next to another statue representing the World Cup.
Local authorities have warned that they must hurry for the sought-after photo: it will remain in that spa until this Thursday, only to be transferred to a local sports complex. .
The sculptor of the work, Victor Coluccio, explained that the statue “was completed during the last few games of the World Cup”. Even if you recounted an infidelity: “the third star was worked on the day after the final against France”, after Argentina’s third crown at the World Cup.
The statue is made of fiber cement and transported three months of work: “It is hollow inside and with internal structures. The sculpture recalls the grandmother who looks at the sky, like Leo (Messi) used to celebrate every goal in the form of thanks”, explained the artist who created it.
“The project began to be worked on with great responsibility. We are talkingand an emblematic and global figurewhere not only the resemblance but also the expression had to be captured in a work”, concluded Coluccio.
While, Ugo Nicoliwho financed the project and owner of the work, added: “What I wanted from the beginning of the project is for people to enjoy themselves. Messi represents that everything is possible when you want and you make an effort. You have to make an inclusion in that , the statue comes to show that human part”.
“The sculpture is the first in the world to have stars and it is in Mar del Plata,” Nicoli said proudly.
The owner of the work has confirmed that the definitive location of the statue will be on the sidewalk of a sports complex under construction in La Feliz. “We will place it there in about two months, in the Edison Avenue and Mario Bravo Nicholas underlined. He’ll be on the sidewalk so anyone who wants to walk up to see him can,” he concluded.
