Aston Martin will not have its full squad of riders for pre-season testing Formula 1, which will take place between Thursday and Saturday at the Sakhir circuit. This was announced by the British team Lance Stroll He had a “minor accident” while training on his bike in Spain and “suffered injuries that will prevent him from participating in the test days in Bahrain”, the same track where the first Grand Prix of 2023 will take place on March 5 .
“I suffered an unfortunate crash while training to prepare for the season. I am determined to get back in the car and am excited about the season ahead with the team. I am motivated to bounce back from this setback as soon as possible,” commented l ‘driver.
Neither the team nor the premier class have reported how the accident happened or what kind of injuries the Canadian suffered.
The team assured that they expect Stroll to recover quickly and be able to compete in the first round of the season, in just under two weeks. And they added that “his suitability to drive again will be assessed daily and an update will be released by the team ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.”
Meanwhile, Aston Martin has not made it clear whether it will use one of its reserve drivers, the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne and the Brazilian Philip Drugovich– test the new AMR23 this week; or if he will leave Stroll’s partner, the Spaniard Fernando Alonsotake advantage of all the time available on the track on test days.
Stroll, himself, was already sitting behind the wheel of the new green car. Because on Wednesday he was on tour with Alonso on the British circuit of Silverstone, on the occasion of an official filming day, before the pre-season tests. On that occasion the Canadian completed 17 laps.
“The car gave me a good feeling,” he commented at the time. “We know there’s always a lot to learn at the start of the year, but we got off to a good start and I really enjoyed driving. There’s nothing like putting your foot on the right foot in a new Formula One car after a long winter break.”
Stroll had shown him then that he was very keen to test the car in the Bahrain tests. But after his accident, he will have to settle for that first experience at the wheel of the AMR23 before the first Grand Prix of the year.
