In a Japan League game played this Friday, Takuya WadaYokohama defender, scored one of the most unusual goals conceded in 2023. When he tried to switch faces for a teammate, he ended up putting the ball in his own goal.
Yokohama drew 1-1 while visiting Shonan Bellmare for the second round of the J League. In the 22nd minute, in an attempt to equalize, Wada receives the ball and, under pressure from his opponents, decides to hand it over to a teammate who asks for it from the side of the area.
The 32-year-old winger’s pass was very inaccurate and It ended in the worst way: with the ball going straight towards the goal with no one around to avoid the unusual goal against which gave the local team the 2-1 run.
The reaction from Wada’s teammates says it all. Some immediately held their heads, others complained looking at the ground and some got stuck trying to process what had just happened. Mainly their goalkeeper, Kengo Nagai, who was a couple of meters from the defender but was not picked to receive the ball and shoot it wide from the back.
Luckily for the sad protagonist of this huge carambola, his partner Koki Ogawa made it 2-2 with minutes remaining and Yokohama managed to salvage a point. Of course, Wada’s blooper is already making its rounds and is all the rage on the networks.
